Take the 2024 Community Survey
SAAA is the only registered society in Canada that actively provides a-spec focused education and advocates for issues impacting the asexual and aromantic community. Having data is invaluable for us to continue this work.

The 2024 Alberta Asexuals and Aromantics Community Check-In will be available online until December 31.
We invite you to fill it out, and share with anyone in your network who the survey is relevant to!

Survey FAQ
Who is eligible to fill out the survey?
Anyone who lives in Alberta and identifies on the asexual or aromantic spectrum (including those who may be questioning or unlabelled).

If you recently moved out of the province, but lived in Alberta at some point during 2024, you are still welcome to take the survey.
What does the survey ask about?
The main categories are:
-
General demographics (age, location, race/ethnicity, etc.)
-
Asexual & aromantic demographics (microlabels, being "out", etc.)
-
Intersectional identities: gender, disability, neurodivergence
-
Lived experiences: healthcare, housing stability, police interactions
-
Your involvement in queer communities, a-spec communities, and SAAA

It is an anonymous survey, and the questions can be skipped if desired.
What is the data used for?
The data is reviewed by SAAA's Board of Directors. It is primarily used to set targets for advocacy work in the coming year and support conversations the Board has with external groups. For example, data from the 2023 survey was used by then-president Rowan Wiebe when ney presented at housing affordability council meetings in Calgary and Edmonton.

A highlight of the survey results will be shared with our community at our next AGM (May 2025). Become a member of SAAA and we will contact you in the new year with an invitation to attend the AGM! You can also read a summary of last year's results on our Advocacy Blog.

Following the 2024 survey, SAAA's Board plans to release a cumulative report of both the 2023 and 2024 survey results.
Are there other surveys like this in Canada?
While there are other surveys in Canada looking at the queer community more broadly, almost every survey that SAAA's Board has investigated has either neglected to mention the "A" at all, or has only mentioned asexuals. Currently, our survey is the only one in Canada which focuses on the asexual and aromantic community and intentionally creates space for the diverse experiences of people with split attraction identities.

SAAA's Board is already beginning work on a 2025 survey, which we intend to circulate nationally for asexuals and aromantics across Canada.
