Volunteer Opportunities

There are several ways to get involved with SAAA. If you are interested in volunteering for one of the opportunities below, or if there’s something else you want to support with that isn’t listed here, please reach out to us at abacesandaros@gmail.com - we would love to hear from you!

Event Volunteers

We are always looking for more volunteers to help host events across the province! See our Events Committee page for more info.

Fundraising volunteers

SAAA is entirely funded through donations. While we work hard to keep costs low, having more funds would allow us to put on larger-scale events, attend more Pride Parades, publish more print materials, and overall increase our presence in Alberta. These volunteers help brainstorm & support new fundraising ideas.

Outreach Volunteers

Community outreach is at the heart of our mission and it’s impossible to achieve without local volunteers. SAAA regularly receives print material requests and event invitations, but we sometimes have to decline due to not having a local volunteer available. This can be as simple as distributing brochures to a community centre, or more involved outreach tasks like staffing a booth at a university student resource fair.

Speaking volunteers

SAAA has Speakers who provide talks/workshops on various topics. Sometimes these talks are scheduled as part of our normal event offerings, and sometimes we are invited to give a talk for external organizations, either in person or online. We are looking for more speakers to help out with this! We will work with you to come up with materials and can do the talks in pairs as you gain confidence with this role. This is a great way to develop public speaking skills!

CONTENT VOLUNTEERS

If you’re interested in sharing your experience with a-spec identities and how they interact with other aspects of your life, being a content volunteer is the option for you! We are especially seeking volunteers to write blogs for our website (minimum 1000 words; can be posted anonymously if you prefer) or film short videos (e.g. interview-style reels answering questions about your experience; again, you can stay unnamed/anonymous although we appreciate if you’re willing to show your face). Other content opportunities are also possible, such as designing new print materials, creating social media content, or contributing towards our next Zine.
